Why We Are Expanding
The Bell Road YMCA was established in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1984 with an outdoor swimming pool. This facility was built section by section through community supported efforts and today this 60,000+ square foot facility hosts the most programs and activities for our community population than any other facility in the area. There are approximately 30,000 children in the Montgomery County public school system. According to the 2010 census, 33% of those children live in poverty. Providing programs, activities and space for these youths to take advantage is critical to the proper and healthy development of our children.
What You Can Expect:
With our “new” Teen space we will provide programs such as a Teen Leaders Club where teens will elect officers and work to plan and implement programs for their peers in our community.
From social activities to community work day projects this group will learn the skills they need to be successful as the leaders of tomorrow.
We will also seek to partner with the Y Achievers Program (currently in its 2nd year) to provide opportunities for teens to learn fundamental skills in personal finance, personal development in areas such as interviewing and job seeking and provide help in researching colleges and understanding the path to success in higher education.
The Bell Road YMCA is inviting every Active Older Adult 62+ to join the Y with no join fee! All older adults benefit from engaging in activities that enhance or maintain their overall well-being. The Y’s Active Older Adult, AOA, programs and activities provide well-balanced, interesting, challenging, and safe activities that enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of older adults. Upon completion of our expansion, we will have a new designated place for our Active Older members to drink coffee and socialize. Also, join us for one of our other activities for Seniors that we offer throughout the year such as Lunch and Learn and Bingo! We have something for everyone: Fit For Life, Zumba Gold, Stretch, Arthritis Moves, Low Impact Dancing, Weights and Cardio
Expanded Wellness Space
You can expact new Group Exercise space for Spirit, Mind and body classes. Also, a new wellness floor area that will free up additional space for the current cardio equipment and provide the free-weight equipment with its own space.
