Common Ground And The YMCA Of Greater Montgomery Partnership
We work with many organizations and non-profits around our community to expand our reach, particularly with youth sports and our feeding program. It helps us to serve more and more children who wouldn’t otherwise be touched by our programs.
One of those non-profits is Common Ground. Common Ground provides a safe haven for our children who are most at risk from the perils of living in an impoverished neighborhood invested with crime and gangs. By using a multi-layered, mentoring model they work to keep kids off the streets and realize their potential, much like the YMCA.
Bryan Kelly, Executive Director of Common Ground said the YMCA has always had a great presence in the neighborhood through our sports program. About five years ago, we started working with Common Ground first through our after school feeding program and grew into our summer feeding program. Kelly said, “The YMCA has taken concern about food off the table for these kids. When they are not concerned about food or where their next meal is coming from, they can actually study math, have fun, be a kid, and grow into the person God intended them to be.”
