YMCA Stories – YMCA Financial Assistance Helps Struggling Family
Ms. Blankenship is a grandmother who has custody of her twin nine-year-old granddaughters. She has been out of work for about three years because she can’t afford childcare for them and has no dependable relatives to leave them with while she works. Because she has not been able to work, she is now in financial trouble. She came to the YMCA to see how much summer camp would cost. She sat down and talked with Scot Patterson, the Executive Director at the Wetumpka Y. He told her the Y could help. Her girls were over the moon to be able to participate in summer camp. They enjoy all of the activities and love coming to the Y. As a grandmother, it warms her heart to know they not only have fun, but also have devotion time and character building. In fact, her girls learned respect, honesty, telling the truth, how to share properly with others, team work, and how to look out for each other. She is eternally grateful to the Y.
