Hiring a personal trainer from the YMCA of Greater Montgomery will help you remain motivated and disciplined with your exercise regime. You will feel more accountable to complete your exercise sessions and will likely be pushed to work harder that if you were exercising alone. The trainer will monitor you to ensure that you are completing each exercise using correct technique and at the appropriate intensity. Whether you prefer land-based exercise or water workouts, our trainers can personalize workouts based on your lifestyle – from working professionals to athletes to new moms and more. Like you, Personal Trainers come in a variety of shapes and sizes with different backgrounds and experience. Each Personal Trainer is committed to continuing their education to provide current and complete knowledge for your needs.
At the Y, we offer workouts to suit your personal needs through one-on-one coaching by nationally-certified trainers. Motivation and accountability are two very good reasons to work with a personal trainer. A personal trainer prepares your workout agenda, keeps you on task, and encourages you to try your hardest and do your best. Plus, knowing he or she is waiting for you makes it easier to attain your goals.

Hello! I am Amy Barwick, a wife, mom of five, and former high school teacher who finds her sanity and joy in fitness (now training for my first half marathon!) and especially in helping others achieve greater health and fitness. I currently teach a variety of class formats at the East and Southeast branches—Pilates, body sculpt, group cycling, and Zumba. My NETA personal trainer certification allows me to apply my biology degree from the University of Michigan in helping potential clients wherever they are in their fitness journey, so that they become healthier—and therefore happier. I won’t yell at you, but I will not stop encouraging you as you reach for your goals!
Give exercise a meaning to your current workout regimen. Overall, whether you are new to working out or a seasoned athlete, we all have something to learn in addition to our preexisting knowledge. As a personal trainer, I hold myself accountable as a teaching tool for my clients to utilize. My role to my clients is to not only build a healthy relationship with fitness, but to encourage how it can become a positive influence in daily practices. As a National Council on Strength and Fitness personal trainer, I hold high expectations for my clients; I strive to find a way to teach them what they need to know and how to implement it in their workout routine. My area of expertise is in weight training and functional training. My clients can expect to learn form and technique in exercises and the reality of why this information is crucial to your overall physical health. Clients can also expect to become responsible for designing their own workout routine, when they are ready and understand how the exercises they picked will work for what they are trying to do in reaching or maintaining their goal. With the combined efforts of these two approaches, I have seen great success with clients and their overall satisfaction in becoming a better, healthier version of themselves. If you are interested in learning how to make exercise a lifestyle, that is enjoyable and beneficial, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org about training at the Y’s Up at Somerset.
Hi, I’m Jen. Sports and fitness have been a part of my life since I was a child. My journey began with little league softball, then onto basketball, track, and competitive cheerleading. In college, I began playing in intramural volleyball and flag-football. However, it was during my 11 years in the Air Force, I ventured into running 5k, 10k, and half marathon races as well as Rugged Maniac races, swimming, triathlons, yoga, and karate. I also have a master’s degree in Exercise Science and several certifications from NASM, AFAA and YogaFit. I specialize in injuries, but I can also help you lose weight, become stronger, and have a better quality of life. I believe every person is different, so I design specific workout programs for each client’s specific goals and needs.
Why Personal Training? Chances are you have been inconsistent with your exercise routine. You are not alone! Many people do so and the reason is often simple- they have yet to find a program that is enjoyable for the long term. This can change! Through my guidance and creativity we will discover healthy foods and exercises you really “DO” like! Medicine and exercise balls, Pilates, resistance bands, free weights, body weight, plyometrics- my arsenal is never dull and always changing! My personal training service, with certifications including: NETA Personal Training, NETA Pilates, NETA Knee and Hip Rehabilitation, Glide Basics and Pilates, gives you the extra push that you will never give yourself. It’s that “push” that makes the body change! Check out my personal page or call me at 334.221.9036.
Over the course of my 25+ years in the Fitness Industry, I have experienced several different ways to help people reach their fitness goals. What I enjoy most about this industry is helping people set and reach their fitness goals through discipline and consistent work. My favorite type of training is ‘Boot Camp’ style of training, in which I incorporate into my personal training as well.
Growing up I always had a love of fitness and athletics. From collegiate basketball and soccer to the sport of powerlifting staying active has always been my main focus. I work with people of all ages and fitness levels, designing appropriate workouts for each individual. As a personal trainer I strive to help individuals reach their fitness goals and to achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle. I graduated from Huntingdon College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, I am a Certified Personal Trainer NFPT, and I am Red Cross CPR Certified. “What seems impossible today will one day become your warm up.” My email is email@example.com and my phone number is 334.430.2315.
With over four years of training experience and professionalism with various ages and populations, including two years of kid’s fitness. I have a passion for being a “difference maker” in my client’s life. People that want to be “overcomers” inspire me and with my perseverant spirit, I loves guiding my clients to their highest level of health and fitness. Proper nutrition is key to ALL weight loss and fitness performance areas. I also teach clean-eating habits to fuel your body to get optimum fat burning results. My style of training will be specific to your individual needs including endurance, agility, strength, power and flexibility focusing on functional training in circuit or boot camp type settings, in small group or 1:1 session(s). My challenge to you is “find your BEST within yourselves, mine is to help you achieve it”! Believe in Yourself!
Fitness has no age! So, if you are interested in getting fit or in shape, as they say in jolly ole England, “Let’s have a go!” I was a researcher, writer and publisher of USAF Physical Fitness Testing methods. I spent twenty years as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Jeff Davis and The Montgomery Academy. I also earned three Power Lifting Competition titles during my competitive years. Personal trainer clients have included people of all ages, both as individuals and multiple client training sessions and athletes for high school sports. Clients have also included those needing rehabilitation and a polio victim. My certification is with American Fitness and Aerobic Association. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my phone number is 334.300.1472. I eagerly await you contact. Cheers, L.G. (Sonny) Vandevender, aka “Coach V”
