At the Y, we offer workouts to suit your personal needs through one-on-one coaching by nationally-certified trainers. Motivation and accountability are two very good reasons to work with a personal trainer. A personal trainer prepares your workout agenda, keeps you on task, and encourages you to try your hardest and do your best. Plus, knowing he or she is waiting for you makes it easier to attain your goals.

Hello! I am Amy Barwick, a wife, mom of five, and former high school teacher who finds her sanity and joy in fitness (now training for my first half marathon!) and especially in helping others achieve greater health and fitness. I currently teach a variety of class formats at the East and Southeast branches—Pilates, body sculpt, group cycling, and Zumba. My NETA personal trainer certification allows me to apply my biology degree from the University of Michigan in helping potential clients wherever they are in their fitness journey, so that they become healthier—and therefore happier. I won’t yell at you, but I will not stop encouraging you as you reach for your goals!

Hi, I’m Jen. Sports and fitness have been a part of my life since I was a child. My journey began with little league softball, then onto basketball, track, and competitive cheerleading. In college, I began playing in intramural volleyball and flag-football. However, it was during my 11 years in the Air Force, I ventured into running 5k, 10k, and half marathon races as well as Rugged Maniac races, swimming, triathlons, yoga, and karate. I also have a master’s degree in Exercise Science and several certifications from NASM, AFAA and YogaFit. I specialize in injuries, but I can also help you lose weight, become stronger, and have a better quality of life. I believe every person is different, so I design specific workout programs for each client’s specific goals and needs.

Over the course of my 25+ years in the Fitness Industry, I have experienced several different ways to help people reach their fitness goals. What I enjoy most about this industry is helping people set and reach their fitness goals through discipline and consistent work. My favorite type of training is ‘Boot Camp’ style of training, in which I incorporate into my personal training as well.

I spent twenty years as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at Jeff Davis and The Montgomery Academy. I also earned three Power Lifting Competition titles during my competitive years. Personal trainer clients have included people of all ages, both as individuals and multiple client training sessions and athletes for high school sports.
