Our Impact
Here For All
Together we’re creating spaces where all feel welcome, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
At the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, our mission is to strengthen the community by improving the lives of all — in spirit, mind, and body. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith, we work alongside individuals and families of every age, background, and experience to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
The YMCA of Greater Montgomery is an inclusive organization that welcomes everyone. We embrace all people regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race, or sexual orientation. We believe that in a diverse and growing world, we are stronger when we are inclusive — when our doors are open to all, and when everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
As our region continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to celebrating the rich diversity of the communities we serve — from neighborhoods to towns across the River Region.
Employee Resource Groups
YMCA of Greater Montgomery Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are team member–led networks that foster connection, support, and professional growth. These groups bring together YMCA professionals from diverse backgrounds and experiences to share ideas, build community, and develop through mentorship, coaching, and networking opportunities.
Each ERG focuses on a shared identity, interest, or experience — such as gender, culture, faith, or lifestyle — creating a welcoming space where team members can bring their whole selves to work.
African-American Resource Network – Develops the leadership potential of African Americans in the YMCA by providing career and personal development opportunities through networking, training, and mentoring.
Asian Pacific Islander Resource Network – Comprises Asian and Pacific Islander staff and volunteers who share information and resources through social activities and online experiences to support career development.
Emerging Leaders – Fosters a community of support and understanding within the YMCA while striving for a future where everyone has access to the resources needed to contribute, connect, and feel empowered.
Hispanic Latino Leadership Network –Advocates for Hispanics and Latinos within the YMCA while nurturing the next generation of Y leaders and serving as a thought leader on issues important to the Hispanic and Latino community.
LGBTQ+ Resource Network – Helps participants fully embrace the Y’s mission and advance their careers while ensuring that all LGBTQ staff and volunteers feel safe, welcomed, and valued.
Native American Indigenous Resource Network – Affirms that Native and Indigenous people are vital leaders within the YMCA movement and society, guided by the principles of Relationships, Real Talk, Resources, and Research.
Women’s Leadership Resource Network – Cultivates an environment that supports and empowers women by leveraging their talents, addressing their unique needs, and providing strategies and resources to help them maximize their career potential within the YMCA.

Make a Meaningful Impact by Giving Your Time and Talents to Strengthen Our Community
At the Y, we stand for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. And that’s why we believe that doing our part to make an impact in the lives of men, women, and children from all walks of life will only make our community stronger, happier, and more generous. We’d love to have you join a movement of volunteers investing their lives into giving back in different ways such as feeding the community, coaching a youth sports team, volunteering as a camp nurse, and more.
Creating a Culture of Bridging and Belonging
The Y’s Global Relations & Community Engagement (GRACE) efforts help ensure all people are respected, feel welcome and can find a community where they can thrive.
Open For All
We help ensure all people feel welcome and valued as part of the Y family.
Changing Communities
As neighborhoods become more diverse, it is important that we, with great intentionality, understand who is in our communities and how best to serve their interests and needs.
Strengthen Community
It’s critical to both our mission and our business that Y’s develop and integrate strategies to effectively engage, advocate and serve all.
Caring for Our Planet — Sneakers4Good
As part of the YMCA’s Vision 2030 initiative, we’re doing our part to care for our planet through the Sneakers4Good program — a simple, sustainable way to give back. We’re collecting gently worn, used, or new sneakers to keep them out of landfills while supporting our annual campaign that funds local youth and family programs.
Every pair collected helps reduce waste, plants trees through our partners, and supports YMCA initiatives that build healthier communities — here at home and around the world.
Step up sustainably!
Drop off your sneakers at any YMCA of Greater Montgomery branch and help us make a global impact, one step at a time.

Regional Emerging Multicultural Leadership Experience
Strength in Connections | September 11–12, 2025 | Montgomery, Alabama
The YMCA of Greater Montgomery was honored to host the 2025 Southeast Regional Emerging Multicultural Leadership Experience (REMLE) — a dynamic professional development conference celebrating and empowering the Y’s next generation of multicultural leaders.
Held in the historic and vibrant city of Montgomery, REMLE brought together over 150 YMCA leaders from across the Southeast to Alabama State University for two days of connection, collaboration, and inspiration. Participants engaged in meaningful dialogue, leadership workshops, and mentoring sessions focused on advancing inclusion, equity, and innovation within the Y movement.
The City of Montgomery recognized the importance of this milestone event with an official proclamation from Mayor Steven L. Reed, declaring September 12, 2025, as Emerging Multicultural Leaders Day — honoring the role of diverse leadership in shaping a more inclusive future.
