Program Opportunities

Scholarships

As part of the Y Achievers program, students can apply for scholarships and grants for college or technical schools. Students will learn how to utilize the internet for scholarship searches, form completion, essay presentations, securing reference letters, and other important steps that support future education goals.

This component helps students feel more prepared and confident when exploring financial support options for continuing education after high school.

Teen Employment & internships

This component of the YMCA Achievers program helps teens secure positions that will teach them the hard and soft skills needed in the workplace. Students will gain workforce development skills and pre-employment training in interviewing techniques, resume writing, and dress for success.

Through these experiences, students build communication skills and learn how to present themselves professionally. This portion of the program supports real-world preparation and helps teens gain practical experience that can benefit them in future employment opportunities.

This experience supports the program’s focus as a career development program for teens preparing for long-term success.

College Tours

Tours of local and out-of-state colleges familiarize students with institutions of higher learning. Trips can include introductions to key college and university personnel, a walking tour of campus, and a lunch or meeting for a question-and-answer session with university personnel.

These tours help students better understand what college life looks like and give them a chance to explore different learning environments. By seeing campuses firsthand, students can begin thinking more clearly about what type of school may be the right fit for their goals.

SAT/ACT Workshops

These workshops help prepare teens for these important college entrance exams with greater confidence. Workshops are part of the program’s commitment to academic readiness and long-term student success.

This support reinforces the program’s focus on helping students feel prepared for the next step after high school.

Mentoring

Y staff and Adult Achievers will serve as a role model who, as needed, provides teens with direction and guidance with a focus on career exploration. Mentoring is a key part of the YMCA Achievers program and supports students through encouragement, goal-setting, and future planning.

Mentors help teens stay motivated and focused as they explore future possibilities and build confidence in their abilities. This mentorship component strengthens the program as an academic mentoring program and a career development program that supports teens during important years of growth.

Preparing for College, Career, and Life After High School

The Y Achievers program supports teens as they prepare for the future by helping them build confidence, explore career goals, and stay motivated academically. Through mentoring, college tours, scholarship guidance, SAT/ACT workshops, and employment opportunities, the YMCA Achievers program provides meaningful experiences that help students plan for what’s next and work toward long-term success.

Meeting Information

YMCA of Greater Montgomery Y Achievers meet at high schools and YMCAs in the Montgomery area. They typically meet during the months of September through April. Meeting dates will vary based on the program location to include twice a month on alternate Saturday mornings, after school hours, weekday evenings, and other convenient times.
