First Class Pre-K Program

Alabama’s Voluntary Pre-K Program Through the YMCA

Alabama’s state-funded First Class Pre-K program is now offered through 10 classrooms at our YMCAs at the Goodtimes Center, Grandview, Cleveland Avenue, East, and Tulane Gardens. The Office of School Readiness uses evidence-based strategies to ensure every Alabama 4-year-old has access to high-quality early learning. Research shows early education leads to improved academic scores, reduced grade retention, and fewer special education placements. Participants are more likely to graduate high school, pursue higher education, earn higher salaries, and avoid long-term issues like prison or welfare dependency.
