YMCA Lifeguard Certification and Training

Become a Certified Lifeguard with the YMCA

Gain the Skills, Confidence, and Certification to Keep Others Safe in the Water

To work at most aquatic facilities, a lifeguard training certification is required, and many employers prefer Red Cross lifeguard certification because of its strong national standards. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery offers this 2-year course as part of its YMCA life guard training programs, blending hands-on practice with classroom learning.

Lifeguards play a vital role in protecting their community by preventing, recognizing, and responding to water-related emergencies. In as little as 30 hours, participants complete comprehensive lifeguard training certification, learning essential lifesaving skills that prepare them for real-world aquatic safety.

Benefits of Lifeguard Training

  • Build Life-Saving Confidence

Lifeguard training gives you the skills and knowledge to protect others with confidence. This isn’t just training, it’s preparation for real-life moments with real impact.

  • Strengthen Fitness & Focus

Our lifeguard training challenges your endurance, strength, and mental focus. You’ll hone swimming skills, build stamina, and practice precision under pressure, all while developing the discipline that makes certified lifeguards stand out.

  • Gain Valuable Career Credentials

Whether you’re headed into the workforce or looking for a summer job with purpose, lifeguard training gives you a nationally recognized certification that opens doors. This credential shows employers you’re responsible, trained, and ready to lead.

  • Join a Supportive Community

Training alongside others creates camaraderie and teamwork. You’ll connect with peers who share your drive, support each other through challenges, and celebrate milestones together, creating friendships that extend beyond the pool deck.
