You can play volleyball at the YMCA of Greater Montgomery at two indoor locations: Grandview Family YMCA in Millbrook and James W. Wilson Jr. YMCA in east Montgomery. Both branches host the Adult Volleyball League and offer open gym volleyball for members.
A typical YMCA league match is best two-out-of-three sets and runs about 45 to 60 minutes from first serve to final whistle. Match length depends on how close the sets are. Plan to be at the branch for roughly an hour on your scheduled night.
A volleyball team plays six players on the court at a time, three in the front row and three in the back. YMCA league rosters usually carry eight to ten players so teams can rotate substitutes and cover for anyone who cannot make a match night.
Most YMCA league matches are played as best two-out-of-three sets. Sets are played to 25 points using rally scoring, and a team must win by two. If the match is tied at one set apiece, the deciding third set is typically played to 15.
The regulation net height is 7 feet 11 and 5/8 inches for men's play and 7 feet 4 and 1/8 inches for women's play. Coed adult leagues often play at the men's height. Your branch sets the net to league standards before each match night.
Register your team through Daxko on the volleyball page, choose Grandview YMCA or Wilson YMCA as your home court, and pay the per-team fee. Do not have a full roster? Contact your branch and ask about free agent placement so we can match you with a team that is still building.
Yes. A volleyball match keeps you moving for an hour with short bursts of jumping, lateral movement, and quick reactions, plus steady cardio between rallies. It is a low-impact way to build agility, core strength, and endurance, and the team format keeps it more fun than a treadmill.
