YMCA OF GREATER MONTGOMERY

Meet the Staff

A camp is only as good as its leadership. The success of a camping experience is due in large part to the relationship between a camper and his/her counselor. Therefore, great emphasis is placed on staff selection. Through careful screening and background checks, our diverse staff is selected for their high moral character, maturity, experience, and camping skills.

As safety is of utmost concern, staff are certified in CPR and first aid, trained in Child Abuse Prevention of the YMCA of the USA, attend a rigorous 10-day Staff Training, and continue to hone their skills throughout the summer. A 1:4 staff to camper ratio is maintained in order to provide ample supervision. Waterfront activities are taught by certified lifeguards that are trained at our facility. The high percentage of returning campers each year attests to the quality of our staff.

Letter From the Director

Thank you so much for considering YMCA Camp Chandler as a summer camp for your child. Sending your child off to camp for the first time is a momentous event in the life of you and your child.

YMCA Camp Chandler has sought to build character, make a difference, and change lives in the campers and families we serve for over 75 years. Camping is a wonderful experience for children. They learn new exciting skills such as riflery, archery, canoeing, sailing, water skiing, horseback riding, and many, many more. They also have an opportunity to make new friends. Our camp program is designed to aid your child in their personal development. We hope campers will leave camp having gained self-esteem, self-confidence, responsibility, independence, and interpersonal skills.

I am a product of YMCA Camp Chandler. I started as a 7-year-old camper and moved through the ranks as a counselor and other leadership positions before coming on as a full-time director. Camp has been one of the most important influences of my life. I have learned countless life lessons at camp. Camp Chandler has continually challenged me in new and wonderful ways going back 30+ years.

I am very proud of our staff. Many of our staff have grown up at Camp Chandler through our leadership development program. As a result, Camp Chandler has a strong sense of tradition and continuity and a very high retention rate. Camp Chandler is a community made up of children, families, alumni, and staff. Together, we are able to have a profound impact on our children and their futures.

Please feel free to call us with any questions you might have. We look forward to seeing you at camp this summer.

Yours truly,

Jeff Reynolds
