YMCA OF GREATER MONTGOMERY

Child Care

Children are like sponges – they watch and absorb knowledge, skills and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our child care, after school, and child watch programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things, and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other. And it’s why the Y brings affordable child care to all children in the Greater Montgomery area.

At the Y, babies develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world, and school-age kids make friends, learn new skills and do homework. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. That makes for confident kids today, and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Pre-K

Our YMCAs at the Goodtimes Center, Cleveland Avenue, Tulane Gardens, Grandview, Kershaw, and East offer Alabama’s state-funded First Class Pre-K program, which has been awarded the highest quality rating by the National Institute for Early Education Research for the past 16 years. The program runs from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.

Before/After School Care

The Y’s Before and After School Care program offers a constructive balance of counselor led activities and free time for child exploration. Daily theme activities include arts and crafts, science/math, nutrition/wellness, presentation and literacy. There is always time for homework, a healthy snack for kids, and outside time on the playground.

Early Learning

The YMCA’s Early Learning programs provide each child a warm and supportive environment in which to grow. We meet the needs of each child with experiences that foster development and a sense of self esteem. Y programs strive to develop the total child, with particular emphasis on educational, physical, emotional and social skills necessary for success.

Child Watch

Many of our locations offer our Childwatch Program. This is an opportunity for you to participate in one of our fitness classes or simply go workout and all the while still have the peace of mind knowing that your children are being watched in a safe environment. Here is a list of locations and Childwatch Schedules.

YMCA Learning Academy

The YMCA’s Learning Academy will provide students with a safe environment for distant learning when they can’t be in school. The program will be hosted at the East YMCA, Goodtimes YMCA, and Cleveland YMCA and will include academic support and enrichment programs with a holistic focus.

Days out program

The Y is a working parent’s best friend. When school is out for winter or spring break, teacher work days, or other one-off holidays, the Y is in with all-day, fun active child care. It’s a win-win. There’s no “I’m bored!” from the kids, and you don’t have to stress while you’re at work.
