Assistant Swim Coach (East YMCA)

JOB TITLE: Assistant Swim Coach

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $14.00 – $20.00 per hour

Job Summary

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Barracudas are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic swim coach to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for swimming and a strong commitment to developing swimmers of all ages and skill levels. This position offers the opportunity to not only teach swimming techniques but also foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for athletes.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead group swim practices in alignment with the YMCA of Greater Montgomery’s mission, vision, and coaching philosophy.
  • Support YMCA staff in organizing and facilitating events.
  • Develop and implement tailored training programs to meet the needs of swimmers.
  • Educate participants on proper swimming techniques and provide constructive feedback.
  • Create engaging and productive practice sessions that promote skill development.
  • Foster a positive team culture that encourages athlete growth and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with fellow coaches and staff to enhance the overall swimming program.
  • Assist with coaching at swim meets and other competitive events.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in swim coaching or teaching swim lessons is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively educate and motivate swimmers.
  • Familiarity with team registration and software (e.g., TeamUnify, Team Manager, Touchpad, HyTek) preferred.
  • Adherence to USA Swimming’s Code of Conduct, Safe Sport Requirements, and the YMCA’s Swimming Principles of Coaching Workbook.
  • At least one year of experience coaching competitive swimming.

Certifications and Trainings

  • Lifeguard certification required.
  • CPR/AED, Safety Training for Swim Coaches, APT, and background check in good standing with USA Swimming.
  • Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodbourne Pathogens within 30 days of hire

Skills & Abilities:

  • Passion for coaching athletes of all skill levels and a desire to help them improve.
  • Strong understanding of stroke development, technique fundamentals, and competitive swimming.

Wellness Staff

Under the guidance and immediate supervision of the Supervisor and the Director of Healthy Living, Wellness Staff are responsible for member engagement including fitness evaluations and wellness orientations.  This position requires you to have basic knowledge of exercise machines and be able to give fitness orientations and assessments.

Essential Functions:

  • Create a caring, friendly, fun, and safe environment that provides opportunities for members to connect, develop relationships, and achieve their wellness
  • Perform light maintenance on the fitness floor as per the Wellness Director. Ensure that all fitness areas are organized and well supplied.  
  • Perform assigned maintenance duties to keep all pieces of equipment clean and working. 
  • Assure that all fitness areas are organized and prepared for members’ use.
  • Any questions or problems that arise should be reported directly to your supervisor.
  • Be attentive to members and their needs.
  • Follow as staff all rules and guidelines for members in the activity areas.  Set the example.
  • Instructs members in fitness orientations, providing feedback as necessary.
  • Read, know, follow and enforce emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.
  • Perform daily supply checks and inform the Wellness Director when supplies are running low.
  • Be responsible for all scheduled hours and if necessary, follow the appropriate substitution procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and additional college level fitness training; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Group Ex Instructor

JOB TITLE: Group Exercise Instructor
Salary: $15-25
The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for teaching group exercise to members, providing a variety of exercise options for the fitness program. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery is responsible for modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

1) Meeting and assessing new members for fitness needs and providing a safe and effective program to meet those needs.

2) Leading group exercise classes with appropriate verbal instructions and clear patterns of movement.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position supports the work of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery in strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
  3. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  6. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  8. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  9. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum age of 16
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

Childwatch- Grandview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Childwatch Staff is responsible providing an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for children ages infant to 12 years old enrolled in the YMCA Child Watch program. All Child Watch staff will be responsible for conducting themselves in an appropriate manner, setting an example for children, parents and co-workers.  In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery is responsible for upholding our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:

  • Be able to follow the direction of the Childwatch Director and/or shift supervisor
  • Acknowledge the member and the child(ren) by greeting them by name

Teen Coordinator

Title: Teen Coordinator

Hours of Work: Up to 20 hours/week, afternoons and Saturdays

Summary: Consistent with the Christian mission and Vision of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Teen Coordinator is responsible for administering and delivering programs for the youth in the community. The Teen Coordinator will work with our youth to determine their needs and develop programs in response to those needs. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sr. Vice President/COO, the Associate Vice President of Athletics provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight to the sports and recreation departments across the YMCA of Greater Montgomery locations. This role involves developing and executing strategic plans that align with the YMCA’s overall Strategic Plan and Association’s vision, mission, and objectives. The AVP of Athletics ensures that key revenue-generating activities are developed and executed to meet the needs of both program quality and the broader community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Leading the development of the department’s strategic plan and ensuring alignment with the association’s overall strategy.
  2. Overseeing the development of sports portfolio-specific plans within Recreation and Athletics.

  4. Cultivates, fosters, and advances key strategic partnerships to enhance the YMCA’s work in the community.

  10. Create a member focus in all operations. Ensure that all programs represent high quality YMCA programs and provide experiences that exceed member expectations.
  11. Monitor trends and developments in markets, demographics and community needs to ensure this department continues to deliver cost effective programs.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Financial Development, the Development Director plays a pivotal role in advancing the YMCA of Greater Montgomery’s charitable mission by implementing strategic financial development initiatives. This position drives philanthropic growth by cultivating donor relationships, securing financial support, and supporting key fundraising campaigns, positioning the YMCA as a “charity of choice” within the community. Working collaboratively with YMCA leadership and volunteers, the Development Director strengthens philanthropic efforts by identifying and cultivating a diverse and new funding portfolio—including corporate partnerships, individual donors, and grant opportunities—to ensure sustainable financial growth.   • Research and identify potential foundation and corporate funding opportunities aligned with the YMCA’s strategic goals.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Serve as an administrator with grant platforms, produce reports, and manage record-keeping.

         3. Special Event Lead 

  • Lead the planning and execution of key fundraising events, including timelines, marketing materials, banquet logistics, volunteer recruitment and attendance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all key and signature YMCA events uphold best practices, high stewardship standards, and align with the organization’s brand and mission.

         4. Staff Training

  • Support staff training in best-in-class fundraising and stewardship practices as well as exceptional event execution to enhance donor engagement and fundraising success.
  • Support team in training staff on how to foster a Culture of Philanthropy at the YMCA.

         5. Additional Duties 

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational objectives.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with fundraising experience preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in grant management, financial development, fundraising, communication, public relations, or human services, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Proven track record in securing grants, managing donor relationships, and ensuring grant compliance and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising techniques, strategies, and nonprofit financial development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze, write, and edit reports and correspond professionally.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve problems effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills.
  • Familiar with fundraising data platforms and software.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Goal-oriented mindset with an entrepreneurial spirit and confidence in making donor outreach calls.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to lead and coordinate events and special projects.
  • Comfortable with effectively communicating the Y’s charitable mission.

Youth Development Director- East Family YMCA

Job Title: Youth Development Director

Salary: $45,000 – $47,000

                                                                                                                                                           

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Development Director shall have responsibility for the day-to-day operation and management of the East Family Pre-school including supervision of the planning and implementing of the children’s daily activities, supervision of staff, and responsibility for maintaining center. This position will also supervise two Pre-K classrooms and oversee summer camp and afterschool programs.  In addition, every position in the Montgomery YMCA is responsible for upholding the Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Early Learning Child Care Center and is the main point of contact with families in the program.
  • Communicate with parents on a daily basis through emails, memos and other means regarding calendar and curriculum updates, as well as any events or issues occurring in the program.
  • Develop, oversee and manage all budgetary items related to the operations of the Early Learning Child Care program.
  • Oversee operation of two Pre-K classrooms.
  • Oversee summer camp and afterschool programs.
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, and direct assigned staff and volunteers for area of responsibility. Review and evaluate performance on a regular basis.
  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals; model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Maintain all licensing records for the Child Care Center to meet State and Local licensing requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain and submit weekly reports as required. Full responsibility for meeting and maintaining the Minimum Standards.
  • Maintain current blue slips and record of immunization record for each child
  • Daily attendance records for family guidance must be filled out and submitted to Family Guidance Center on first of the month
  • Complete monthly classroom observations for each teacher. Provide feedback of learning opportunities from observations.
  • Monitor all operations, appearance and appropriateness of décor, (bulletin boards, classroom displays, learning materials, storage areas, etc.).
  • Maintain classroom supplies by completing monthly inventory throughout the year.
  • Review and monitor curriculum implementation.
  • Coordinate and work with all other YMCA programs to ensure consistency and communication among all families.
  • Work with Branch membership and marketing to ensure that all advertising, social media, public relation pieces, etc., are accurate and of the highest quality.
  • Ensure that registrations and related information is accurate, on file and updated.
  • Participate in required Branch and Association-wide activities and events.
  • Participate in and support the Annual Campaign
  • Cooperate with other staff in planning and conducting special events and projects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in childcare development or Early Childhood Education and at least 6 months experience as a childcare worker/teacher or as a director/program director in a licensed day care center.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21
  • Fulfillment of state specific standards
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Suite
