ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Greet and serve members and guests

Counselor (Summer)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Counselors are responsible for supervising children while conducting educational, cultural and recreational activities for children from grades K-8.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Take primary responsibility for the health, well-being and happiness of participants
2. Learn the likes and dislikes of each participant
3. Recognize and respond to opportunities for group problem solving
4. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experience success while at the YMCA
5. Encourage respect for personal property, YMCA equipment and facilities
6. Set a good example for participants in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up chores, rules and sportsmanship
7. Guide participants in participating successfully in all aspects of activities
8. Supervise, assist instructors and actively participate in all aspects of the participants’ day
9. Observe participants behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
10. Prepare for and actively participate in pre-summer training and weekly meetings
11. Meet/communicate regularly with supervisor regarding concerns, updates and challenges
12. Submit all required paperwork on time

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position supports the work of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery in strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
  3. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  6. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  8. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  9. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum age of 16
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

Wellness Coordinator Grandview YMCA

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the guidance and immediate supervision of the branch supervisor and the Director of Healthy Living, the Wellness Coordinator is responsible for member engagement including fitness evaluations and wellness orientations. The Wellness Coordinator should assist staff and volunteers while supporting the goals, objectives, and mission of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Create a caring, friendly, fun, and safe environment that provides opportunities for members to connect, develop relationships, and achieve their wellness goals.
2. Assist the Director of Healthy Living in the implementation of effective programming that emphasizes personal service, member goal attainment, and retention.
3. Assist the Director of Healthy Living implementation and delivery of signature wellness programs and quarterly member incentive programs.
4. Participate in the efforts and work of the Annual Support Campaign.
5. Provide a clean and well-maintained wellness center, which involves knowledge of equipment preventative maintenance and repairs.
6. Provide fitness assessments and evaluations, equipment orientations/training, and communication and coaching sessions with new and current members based on monthly and annual goals.
7. Provide monthly data reports of wellness/member activity within the facility.
8. Provide interviews, tours and guidance to prospective new members as needed.
9. Meet monthly to reflect and provide insight to improve member engagement through health and wellness.
10. Serve as a member of the Wellness cabinet as appropriate.
11. Be familiar with and provide current information on YMCA programs to members, volunteers and staff.
12. Commit to the core values of the YMCA and the mission we serve.
13. Follows the guidelines and policies of the Association at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School or equivalent (minimum); Degree or pursuit of studies in Exercise Science, Health & Wellness field, 2 years experience in a wellness-related field, or equivalent preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS: First Aid, CPR, AED & O2, YMCA Principles of Healthy Lifestyles, YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning

2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.
4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
5. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication
with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
