Volunteer & Staff Experience Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the director of the VP of Human Resources and Leadership Development, the Volunteer and Staff Experience Director will be responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, retaining, and tracking the large corps of volunteers who are involved in meaningful roles in the Association.  This position provides direction and coordination for all volunteer and collaborative functions within the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. This position works to strengthen program/development efforts and results with volunteer/collaborative services; involves a community of supporters as described in the duties outlined below and assist in maintaining and enhancing collaborative partnership relations.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in related field or related experience preferred.  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software. Strong leadership, organization, human resource development, management and communication (verbal and written) skills are required in order to integrate and coordinate many needs and functions on a large scale. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to work with a diverse group of people.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive recruitment, orientation, training, retention, and recognition plan for individual and group volunteers to ensure that all volunteers are knowledgeable and feel valued.  
  2. Communicates with all departments of the organization to identify available opportunities and needs for volunteer.
  3. Gather information about each volunteer’s skills, availability, and goal and matches volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data
  4. Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with collaborative partners ensuring that mutually agreed upon expectations are being met.  
  5. Provides primary leadership at fairs, festivals, schools, corporations, etc. in promoting the YMCA as the premiere place to volunteer.
  6. Develop and maintain appropriate collateral materials for recruitment of volunteers. 
  7. Develop and maintain collegial relationships with peers in the field and with area volunteer organizations to ensure best practices for our volunteer and collaborative programs.
  8. Serve as primary point of contact for all requests to volunteer/collaborate including, telephone, voice mail, email, and written requests and ensure a timely response.
  9. Attend youth sports cabinet meetings and work with program directors to recruit and train program volunteers.
  10. Create a volunteer experience that sets the YMCA of Greater Montgomery as a premier volunteer opportunity.
  11. In conjunction with Human Resources, assist in developing and maintaining complete and accurate records including volunteer policies, procedures, position descriptions, standards of conduct and, where applicable, criminal background checks, and maintaining an accurate database with contact information.
  12. Work with Financial Development Director to develop, cultivate and grow volunteer engagement with individuals, community groups, businesses and other external partners to align with the organization’s fundraising goals.
  13. Curate an intentional staff engagement plan to include in person (all staff events), digital (staff fitness challenge) and other forms of interactions to promote a high level of employee engagement and morale.
  14. Provides leadership to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to help foster the Association’s efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
  15. Support HR in functions related employee data management, training, new hire orientation and other general HR activities.

After School Counselor (Good times Center, East Family Y)

Salary: $8.00 per hour

Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Site Director, the counselor is expected to supervise, manage and interact with the children registered in the Goodtimes program. Work hours are from 2:45pm – 6:00pm.

Days:
Monday through Friday except school holidays but have the option to work on holidays.

Qualifications:
Must be at least 17 years old, undergoing professional preparation to be a leader of young children or having experience with elementary age children. Must be willing to fulfill the counselor’s responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s philosophy and goals. CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. To supervise and interact appropriately with all children in the program according to prescribed YMCA standards.
  2. To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to, weekly lesson plans, sports, games, crafts, etc.
  3. Be responsible for the safety of program participants at all times.
  4. Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, program participants and other staff.
  5. Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
  6. To complete all required documentation for the program.
  7. Responsible for maintenance and care of equipment and supplies.
  8. To help with housekeeping tasks as necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position supports the work of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery in strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
  3. Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  6. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  7. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  8. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  9. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum age of 16
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent
• Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.

5. Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication

Site Director (Goodtimes Center, East Family Y)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Site Director will be responsible for the overall management and supervision of a school site. Each site contains between 15 and 90 children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. The children to staff ratio is maintained at 15:1.

Days:
Monday through Friday except school holidays.

Qualifications:
Professional preparation as a teacher of young children. Prefer an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and Development. Other acceptable fields include Physical Education, Recreation, Social Work, Program Administration, Psychology, and Sociology. Must be sensitive and mature, able to relate with both children and adults. Need a strong personality and an ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity. CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Plan, supervise and implement the Goodtimes Program in accordance with the goals and policies established by the YMCA.
  2. Direct all site staff.
  3. Communicate effectively with parents.
  4. Coordinate closely with school personnel about arrivals, departures and absences of Goodtimes children.
  5. Document accurately the attendance and emergency information on each child.
  6. Establish, administer, and conform with all applicable emergency procedures adopted by the school, YMCA and Emergency Service Authorities.
  7. Collect all program fees, issue receipts and keep weekly fees current.
  8. Maintain up-to-date records on all children enrolled.
  9. Coordinate the daily schedule with that of the school’s calendar.
    10. Maintain an ordered arrangement, appearance and décor to encourage creativity and learning.
  10. Plan and coordinate activities to accommodate the Goodtimes children’s needs and interests.
  11. Attend all staff meetings and training programs and pick up supplies by determined date.
