Wetumpka YMCA Breaks Ground for New Swimming Pool

Wetumpka YMCA Breaks Ground for New Swimming Pool

Serving the community is what the Wetumpka YMCA has done since its inception back in the 1970s. With the construction of a new pool happening now, the Y will provide continued progress in serving the community through recreation, aquatic programs, and unity.

The plans for the pool were unveiled during a groundbreaking ceremony held on January 31st at the Wetumpka YMCA. The pool will have an “L” shape design, with a zero-entry, and a 6 lane competition area for swimmers. It will also feature over 7,000 square feet of deck, a huge slide, and water toys in the kids area.

Elmore County Commissioner Troy Stubbs said ”There is something for everyone at the YMCA. Things like building a swimming pool will not only bring recreational activities for families, but it will develop swimming programs for our schools and provide life-saving swim lessons. We have had too many children drown in the Coosa River in the last 10 years and teaching kids how to swim at a young age will be a real difference-maker for our community.”

In 2021, the Wetumpka YMCA served 3,480 children in afterschool, summer, and holiday programs while providing a youth sports program to 1500 children. With close to 2,000 members, the YMCA knows the impact this pool will make on Wetumpka and takes immense pride in its work to strengthen the community.

The grand opening ribbon cutting for the pool will be around April 1 when it is finalized.
