One Family. Four Generations. All Love The Y
Alan Rod is proud to share the Y with all of his family in different ways. Alan retired from the Air Force a few years ago, but for many years, would meet his wife, Becky, at our Downtown Y at lunch time so that they could spend time together staying healthy while rearing their children. After retiring a few years ago, he and his wife stared attending the Bell Road YMCA because it was much closer to home. Alan, who loves the water and has been an avid swimmer his whole life really enjoys the aquatics year-round at the Bell Road Y.
Shortly after beginning to come to the Bell Road Y, their daughter, Rachel, had a baby. She wanted to visit somewhere were she could work out and have someone watch her children. She started coming to the Bell Road Y and became active in the Zumba classes while utilizing Child Watch. Since the second granddaughter, Danyalle, came along, Rachel has started back to Zumba and now takes Danyalle to child watch while Danyalle’s older sister, Sophie, gets to play with her grandad (Alan) in the pool.
Not long ago, Alan moved his dad, John E. Rod (the first generation) who is 92 ,to Montgomery. Because of the lift chair at the Bell Road pool, it has made it possible for his dad to participate in aqua classes for arthritis while the rest of the family works out together or plays in the pool. Alan is really thankful to have all of his family involved in the YMCA. He says the Y is full of caring people who are so gracious beyond what he and his family can expect.
